Going to Iraq...

Robby, bottom left...deployed to Iraq this week. His mom and dad are on the left, back row, along with his sister, her hubby and our great-granddaughter and great-grandson. My youngest daughter is on the right with her fiance and his little girl; her two boys are in the front, right.

We all got together the first week of March while Robby was on leave. We had a great visit and now anxiously await his safe return!

Manic Monday - Trip

Mo's off on a trip to London, for a dinner of fish and chips (kippers on the side, along with some bangers), and I'm busy tripping all over myself! Truthfully, if I ever get pulled over and asked to walk the white line, I'm in trouble!!! No, I don't drink and drive, but I am terribly clumsy! I'm the type that cannot walk and chew gum.

While working in the yard, I missed the step up the walk while carrying something, and took a header, landing squarely on my round butt (there's a geometry lesson for you!) and smacked my elbow. A couple of days later, I heard hubman trip and fall when he took a step backward and tripped on the tools he was using. He scrubbed up his elbow and his hip. We don't need drugs to go "tripping." We're pretty good at it all by ourselves.

Footnote: Neither of us injured much more than our pride.

Camera Critters

Just like house cats, this guy is stalking his sibling, who's playing with a favorite stuffed critter.
He's just waiting for a good moment to pounce and take away the toy!
These bobcats live a couple of miles from me, at the C.A.L.M. (California Living Museum). It houses only flora and fauna that's indigenous to California (Duh!).

Photo Hunt - Stripes

This is the leaf of a "Tropicana" Cana plant. They grow from rhizomes and are very hardy, which is a huge plus! This is one of my very favorites. I took this shot a few summers ago because of the beautiful striped leaves. This variety puts out long stems that pop with bright orange flowers. It will bloom from mid-spring 'til first frost. I just planted three different varieties: red, yellow and bright pink. Hopefully, they'll do as well as this one.

What a Concert!!!

I've never seen so many gray-haired men with pony tails in my life as I did last night! (Not the performers - the fans!) We went to a Moody Blues concert here in town and a lot of folks in attendance reeked of weed! Yes, I do know what it smells like... Aging hippy-types are not a pleasant sight. But, oh - the music! It was our second concert and I think they group was even better last night than in 2002.

The Moody Blues formed on 4 May 1964, in Erdington, Birmingham, England. Ray Thomas, John Lodge, and Michael Pinder had been members of El Riot & the Rebels, a regionally-popular band. They disbanded when Lodge, the youngest member, went to technical college and Pinder joined the army. Pinder then rejoined Thomas to form the Krew Cats and enjoyed moderate success. The pair recruited guitarist/vocalist Denny Laine, band manager-turned drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The five appeared as the Moody Blues for the first time in Birmingham in 1964. The name developed from a planned sponsorship from the M&B Brewery and was also a subtle reference to the Duke Ellington song, "Mood Indigo". (Wikipedia)

The first time I became aware of them was the song, "Nights in White Satin." "Tuesday Afternoon," and "Ride My See-Saw," are other favorites. Last night, among a sold-out crowd in our concert arena, I just went with the music, rhythm, and memories. I loved every minute of it and suggest to those of you who may be a tad younger than I, please go back and research some of their songs. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Spring Cleaning!

Since last Saturday, hubman and I have been working our collective butts off. We pulled out old shrubs, amended soil, laid landscape fabric and doled out bark. We planted tomatoes and strawberries and lots of new plants and flowers. And it's not over: We still have to clean out the flower beds in the back and that kind of stuff....Next, we move inside. The blinds have been hung and now comes the painting. OY! We have been laughing at each other because we are SO stiff and gimp around like we need walkers.
I have missed several posts because I was too pooped to blog! Hopefully, I can get back to speed this weekend, if I can walk.
