Broken Hearts

Our Marine, Robert William Rawlins, "Robby," went home to be with Jesus today, May 21, 2011.

Our darling grandson, Robby, our marine, passed away today as the result of a tragic motorcycle accident. Our hearts are broken, and it's only through the peace and grace of Christ that we will endure. Please pray for his mom, (my daughter, Leah) and his dad, Bob and sister, Ashleigh.

The top three photos are from March, the last time we were with him.  The bottom picture is at his folks' home on leave.  He's got Chico , his mom's dog in his hoodie.   That was our Marine, silly, funny, loving and very much a wonderful young man.  We loved this child so much, and will always treasure his memory..

Gracie, I just don't know what to say. It seems like you have been through so much lately and now this. It just doesn't seem fair or right or ... well, or anything.

I can only imagine the pain and hurt that you and your daughter and the rest of your family is going through and I only wish that I could reach across the miles and give you a hug in the hopes that it would help strengthen you during this sorrowful time.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, my friend. If you need anything that I can provide, just say the word.

I love you.

Oh my, Gracie! My deepest condolences go out to you and yours for the loss of your grandson. I had often thought if anything happened to my children, what on earth would I do and now, with my grandchildren, that fear, that question, cuts even deeper into me when the thought crosses my mind. Do we perhaps actually feel more for our grandchildren than we did our children? I don't think we do but there is a different bond with that generation than there was with the children -one I sure can't explain. But I do know if I were in your shoes, I too would be totally devastated. Prayers and faith will eventually pull you through this -that much I still believe. Please try to keep that aspect in your mind, with your memories of your grandson, for your survival.

Oh, Gracie, I just read this over at Sarge's. I can't begin to find words or offer anything remotely resembling wisdom at a time like this....I can't imagine the pain you must be feeling.

What a beautiful child he was, a handsome Marine, and a lovable grandson.
God be with all of you.
Many many hugs.

Gracie, My deepest sympathies for your loss and may the kind thoughts of others ease your daughter's pain. Someday there may be comfort in the idea that you had this wondrous life with you for a short while. For now may tears and the shoulders of the love that surrounds you be enough.

Gracie, I do love the picture of the two of you together. You will be able to forever cherish his memory. Heaven gained one beautiful angel and I have no doubt that some day you will be reunited with him...what a glorious day that will be, a day of rejoicing!!!
