Every Body Talks About It...
The Weather - The old phrase goes "Everybody talks about it but nobody does anything about it..."
We had a huge amount of water in our river (not above) a couple of years ago and the city fathers have been able to keep it rolling through the city during the summer. This year is different. We didn't have a successful snowpack in the Sierras so the water is at a low level. Also, since the Southern California and Central California water boards fight constantly over the fate of the water, on a low year it can mean the difference between a lawn or not! What's worse is that the poor farmers and ranchers have crops and livestock to worry about.
Weather is the irony of all ironies. It's pouring in New York.

Ah, I remember well the last drought that California had. I hope it doesn't get as bad or last as long this time around.
We have had some pretty strange weather for June. The two days previous today were cloudy, cool, and kept threatening rain though we got none. Today is warm and sunny like June is supposed to be.
Personally I can do without the three H's of New England summers - hazy, hot, and humid - but I'm sure they'll turn up soon whether they are welcome or not!
When I first got to Washington I thought it odd that people would talk so seriously about draught conditions. Conservation is king here. We're required to conserve year round.
The slightest dip in the water table brings out draught talk. Certainly it's not as severe as the things that happen in the southwest. But we conserve.
The drought is very scary. I would rather have too much rain than too little... I'd prefer the coming of an another ice age reather than this global warming slow-build-up-to-it stuff...
Our hills are all brown, ad over riverbeds dry like the picture you posted...
Southern California could be a desert...
In southern California they waste water. I have seen it first hand. Our lawns are dead and they are spraying down the businesses or driveways. Always has made me scratch my head. I just don't get it.
As scarce as water is here in the desert Southwest, we don't talk of water conservation, and you'd think we would even though we've been in a drought situation for years. What so many people who live here don't know about is the deep underground table that sits below The City; I guess it's better if they don't know about it!
All this while Oklahoma is being drowned right now. We have had so much rain that it is flooding the wheat fields and the farmers cannot harvest the grain. I will admit it is better than a drought, but it is getting a bit much
