Chasing My Tail

The past few days have not been kind: the dishwasher threw up all over the kitchen floor, which is that nasty kitchen carpet and I had to have two separate repairment come take a look. It's been hotter than blue blazes and going out and watering has really been hard. The sprinkler system doesn't work correctly so everything has to be hand watered, and of course, I moved with at least 100 potted and hanging plants! So I wanted to make a short post, just letting you all know I'm still among the living (I like the Brits way of using "amongst").
The fine-feathered beastie here is "Spanky," the one responsible for taking chunks out of my earlobes, neck and cheek. I think that was pretty much teenaged behavior as it hasn't happened in a long time - we seem to have come to an "agreement." Don't bite me and you won't get your little green neck wrung. Seems to have worked!
I run the faucet with tepid water into the sink, he wades out and gives himself a good soaking, and shakes off just like a dog. Then he's back to his house for a good preening. If we don't follow this routine, he'll give himself a bath in his drinking water cup! Since his species (Nanday Conure) originates in the rain forests, you can see why he likes his bath! I've had his companionship for fifteen years now. He's quite the character. He has a short vocabulary but his squawk is equal the decible of a rock band. Conures are known for their loud voices! Just another perk of being a bird owner...(and being part crazy)
Wishing you all juicy dragonflies and rainbows!

Your dishwasher and my washing machine might be siblings =(

Sending sweet Spanky some virtual fresh salad from Germany. Hope he likes it - my friend´s birdie is salad-mad, so I thought Spanky might like salad, too.

Have a great weekend, Gracie. Hope to see ya on SPSH =)

Teenagers are bad enough but to have a teenage bird with an attitude had to be a real tough time! Glad to hear that Spanky has settled down some!

It's hot here in Connecticut, too, but I'm sure nothing like you're getting out in California. I wish we could skip right over August as I think it's THE worst month of the year but alas ... 28 more days of it!

Great photos. Did you see "Everybody Loves Raymond" where Roberts Mother in Law did a bird in? Your post made me remember that, stupid huh.....

We had a thunderstorm yesterday, it was about 80 pre storm, 65 after.

You should talk with my friend Barbara..She has a blog...I think she has the same type of bird. I got her started blogging. She lives close to me here in SAvannah. Her blog is Baba's Blog. You two could compare notes on your birds. smile. My Friday Feast is up if you want to come and dine...Sandy

What a pretty bird!

Bad luck with the home appliances eh? Any chance of replacing the flooring with pergo or tile? Might be a good opportunity for it.

I'm exploring flooring options these days. For reasons passing understanding, the previous owners of my condo put carpeting in the high traffic areas. So I'm thinking of hard wood.

Cheers!

Awww I love Spanky, how cute. I hate it when appliances die, you can't live without them & they are often so expensive to fix. Hope things get sorted soon x x

I hear you on all the watering! I'm so excited in the Spring to plant every seed I can get my hands on - now I shake my head and wonder what the heck I was thinking!!

Spanky sure is a cutie - his colours are gorgeous!
