Special Edition Manic Monday - Silence

LyricsArtist: Simon & Garfunkel
SOUNDS OF SILENCE
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are
written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Some people are showing respect to those who were murdered at Virginia Tech by chosing not to blog today; others are remembering the dead but chosing not to be silent. We all mourn in different ways ... but either way, their memory is honored here.
In a world that is upside down and inside out, I do not feel silence is a good thing... We need to be listening to one another in a way as never before.

Well done! Prayer is always a good response also.

That is one of the best songs ever made. I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel and I still do. The other three songs I love are "I am a Rock", "America" and "Bridge over Troubled Water".

Some of my earliest musical memories are of this song. I still listen to S&G to this day.

I love Simon and Garfunkle, Sound of Silence is one of my favorites, but I also love America and Only Living Boy in New York.

This is a special song for me - I posted it too. It says what I wanted to say today very well.

Hi Gracie. This is a good song to play tribute to the victims of that sad and tragic day. My prayers go out for the victims and their families.
